Call for Community Participation

Museum of Neighbourhood Anthropology
Exhibition dates: August 14 – September 29

Lakeshore Arts is building a collaborative pop-up museum examining the South Etobicoke neighbourhood. The museum invites community members to adopt the role of an urban anthropologist, searching the neighbourhood for clues about the social, cultural, economic, environmental or political characteristics of the community. What objects, textures, smells, images, sounds can be used to represent something important or essential about the area? We’re calling on the community to help collect and interpret items to display in this collaborative museum that tells stories about the neighbourhood through the lens of its inhabitants.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. There is no right or wrong way to contribute. Get as creative, abstract or metaphorical as you like! It could something natural or manmade, something you already have, something you find or something you make. A particularly significant piece of recycling, a plant, a texture, a photo, a meaningful piece of correspondence, a tool, a receipt – the sky’s the limit! You will be given an opportunity to explain what your contribution represents and why you wanted to include it in the museum.

This temporary collection of community artifacts will be used to help inform a new socially engaged project model Lakeshore Arts is launching that invites artists to collaborate with community members on exhibitions examining social issues identified by people in the neighbourhood.

Come add your piece at any point throughout the museum’s life span until the end of September!

If you have any questions or would like to arrange a set time for drop off please email our Community Project Space Curator Jacqui at and she’d be more than happy to assist you!
