Over 11 days in November, 91 students at lakeshore Collegiate Institute had the opportunity to work once again with professional artists Dan Bergeron and Paul Aloisi to explore mixed media, portrait photography, collage, street art and wheat paste techniques. Students from grade 9-12 participated in this innovative program which allowed them the chance to work one on one with professional artists. Students chose characters they felt represented qualities of themselves to communicate and explore themes of identity. The program ended with a day of critiques where the impact of such a project was felt not only by students and faculty, but the artists facilitators and guest curators. Each student who participated created a 2’x3’ panel that will be hung within the halls of Lakeshore Collegiate Institute.

During the first semester of the 2013/14 school year, professional artists Dan Bergeron and Paul Aloisi led 67 students in a month-long workshop at LCI focused on the history of street art, graffiti and portraiture in the arts. Using photography and mixed media techniques, each student created a self portrait that represented their identity, goals, and personal beliefs. The powerful portraits were displayed at Lakeshore Arts’ Smith Zone Gallery in March 2014, and have since been installed in the halls of LCI.
