My City My Six

My City My Six is a participatory public art project that will reveal Toronto and its residents in celebration of Canada 150, six words at a time. Lakeshore Arts and the Toronto Public Library presented a series of creative writing workshops in collaboration with spoken word artist and arts educator Patrick Walters and assisted by Amanda Miceli. Workshops were open to all ages. Each workshop was broken into four parts: Identity, First Creation, Feedback, and Guided Creation. We heard your six word stories and now we are gearing up for the city-wide exhibition.

As part of Lakeshore Arts’ My City My Six series, Rob Matejka of Mural Routes will be offering stencil making workshops and spray chalk activations to Stencil the Six with the six word stories submitted by local residents during creative writing workshops.

About the Artist: Through his artistic journey Rob Matejka has embraced art as a medium for positive social intervention and is enjoying animating the communities and people he works with – making art accessible to all through workshops, mentoring, and adding to the growing outdoor public gallery

About the Artist: Patrick Walters is a spoken word artist and arts educator who has spent over three years professionally using poetry to place emphasis on self expression, mental health and ways to improve our communities. Through workshops, Spoken word showcases and audio/visual content, Patrick has dedicated himself to the pursuit of his goals for himself and his growing community.
