Mimico Children’s Choir

The Mimico Children’s Choir engages children ages 7 to 14 years old in a singing and music program where children will sing songs, learn about music, use their languages, play games, and make new friends. The Choir is committed to community-building, giving children of all backgrounds and income levels access to high quality, affordable choral education and a sense of teamwork through rehearsals and performances together.

The choir was held once a week for an hour after school September through May at Mimico Baptist Church for rehearsals and concerts, however, the Mimico Children’s Choir will hold all sessions and concerts online until further notice due to COVID-19 restrictions and safety precautions.

The two main concerts are the highlight during each session; The Christmas in Mimico carol concert and Annual Spring Concert. Mimico Children’s Choir has partnered with a number of other prestigious musical groups in the Toronto area, including the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra and the Weston Silver Band.

A Little History

The Mimico Children’s Choir was founded in 2007 by Margaret Nealon and since has been providing accessible, high-quality musical education to children in South Etobicoke. The Choir delights audiences young and old through community-based performances at local events and seniors’ facilities. In 2015 the Choir was honoured to receive their first grant from the Ontario Arts Council and won a 2015 Gem of the Lakeshore Award for “Best Culture and Recreation” in Etobicoke-Lakeshore.

2021 Summer Session

This year, the Mimico Children’s Choir has been cancelled. We invite those interested to check out our other youth programs and stay tuned for our fall programming!

2020 program shift

During our spring 2020 session, we shifted Mimico Children’s Choir rehearsals and Spring concert online. Choir Director Jenn Robinson and her team were offering e-rehearsal packages to singers on a weekly basis to continue their practice of music while physically distancing at home.

Using the power of technology and music to keep our young singers connected, we’ve been able to transform our in-person Spring Concert into a pre-recorded video performance of ‘You Can Count on Me’ parody with Mimico Children’s Choir. This allowed many of the choir members and directors to connect and sing from their homes.

We welcome you to view their performance and share in the joy of music!
