Future Frequencies 2026

Future Frequencies is a creative writing & radio broadcasting program for youth ages 14-18. The program runs in two parts. In the first, participants will be mentored by writer Jingshu Yao to hone their craft and put together creative writing pieces. The second half of the program will focus on radio production, under the guidance of Met Radio staff. Participants will work in-studio at Toronto Metropolitan University to record and edit their pieces, which will air on Met Radio!

    • Raucous Caucus Collective Studio @ Kensington Market
    • Met Radio @ TMU

 

Location schedule will be sent out upon registration confirmation.

Demographic: Teens 14-18, prioritizing those from low income households.

Program Bonus: $150 honorarium for completing the program + meal served at every workshop.

Meet The Facilitator

 

 

Jingshu Yao

Born and raised in Nanjing, China, Jingshu Yao (she/they) is a writer and community artist based in Toronto. Jingshu’s writings focus on the intersectionality of identities, and common themes include food, immigration, language, and queerness. Her digital project on East Asian recipe stories, “North York Recipes for Healing,” was completed under Heritage Toronto’s Equity Heritage Initiative in 2023. She is the recipient of the Toronto Arts Foundation Newcomer Artist Award in 2026. Jingshu’s creative prose is published in creative journals such as Tint Trails, Rabid Oak, and Gastronomica. Her poetry pieces can be found in tba: Journal of Art, Media, and Visual Culture, and What Colour is a Heartbeat Anthology
