Black Artists Residency 2026/27

About the Residency

The Black Artist Residency invites three emerging to mid-career Black Artists to take part in a studio residency in Lakeshore Art’s upstairs artist studios. 

The selected Artists-in-Residence (AIRs) have 24/7 access to the studios in South Etobicoke for over 5 months, and receive a materials stipend. After working on their self-directed projects, they will host an open studio session during February 2027.

Residency Details

Dates: September 21, 2026 – February 26, 2027

Location: 2422 Lake Shore Blvd. W, 2nd Floor

Materials Stipend: $300

Who is this residency for:

Artists working in visual or performing arts who self-identify as Black, African, and/or Afro-Caribbean, and who live locally in South or Central Etobicoke. Artists who can devote 2-3 times per week to spend in the studio during the residency period are encouraged to apply.

Accessibility

Lakeshore Arts’ artist studios are located on the second floor of a building with 3 stairs at the entrance, a narrow staircase to the second floor, and non-automatic doors. A bathroom is available on the same level as the artist studios. A sink for cleaning art supplies is located in the basement of the building, two floors down from the studios.
