About the program
This course explores mixed-media techniques using vibrant African textiles, patterned art paper, and other versatile materials. Participants will engage in various hands-on projects, such as canvas art, tote bag customization, and wooden box decoration, incorporating materials such as alcohol ink, and fabric paints to create unique, personalized designs. Each session will combine technical instruction with opportunities for individual creativity, in a supportive, inspiring environment.
No experience is required for this course. All materials are provided.

No experience required. Priority is given to Black folks, and folks with lived experience with mental illness and/or addiction.

About the Artist
Apanaki Temitayo is a disabled artist and advocate who explores themes of identity, mental wellness, and the African diaspora. Through mixed-media textile collage, using African fabrics, Apanaki creates intimate portraits and cultural narratives that engage viewers in a dialogue about heritage, resilience, and personal healing.
Their artistic practice is informed by their lived experiences with depression, CPTSD, and the complexities of cultural reconnection. Apanaki’s work has been showcased in multiple exhibitions and their art practice is intertwined with their commitment to community well-being and the empowerment of marginalized voices through
artistic expression.
