YAM End of Year Showcase

YAM (Youth Arts Movement)

June 9 – 23, 2018
Opening Reception: June 12, 5-7pm

This end of year showcase celebrates the work that the YAM (Youth Arts Movement) participants have produced throughout 2017/2018. A free weekly drop-in program for youth 12-18 years of age, YAM runs Tuesday nights from October through June and provides artistic programming and leadership opportunities for youth living in the Etobicoke-Lakeshore area. The work on display is a small sample of the extensive projects made by these talented and dedicated individuals.

This year, YAM moved away from from a model of one-off workshops towards longer sustained projects in a variety of artistic disciplines, including street art, zine making, screenprinting, music production, video game design, skate deck design, dance and short film. Each workshop series was led by different professional artist: Elicser Elliott, Daniel Rotsztain, Maureen Da Silva, Nixon Boyd, Simon McCamus, Lisa Wilson, Rob Matejka, and Merik Williams, spending anywhere from two to four weeks working on a unique project with the youth. This new model allowed YAM participants to focus on process over product, experimentation, collaboration, skill development and teamwork, building confidence and forging new friendships.

Special thanks to TD Canada Trust and the three South Etobicoke branches (125 The Queensway, 2210 Lake Shore Blvd W, and 2472 Lake Shore Blvd W.) that so generously sponsored the YAM program this year through the TD Play initiative.
